Workshop Digs Into Proper Soil Fertility
Though he lives just a few miles from the farm on which he was raised, Neal Kinsey's chosen field takes him all over the world.The Missouri native travels next to Salem to conduct one of his workshops on soil fertility in a Jan. 21-23 event hosted by Oregon Tilth. Kinsey's workshop comes on the heels of Oregon Tilth's 33rd Annual Conference Jan. 18-19. Both events take place at the Salem Conference Center. .
Exposed: The Long, Cruel Road to The Slaughterhouse
There is NO need for animal foods in human nutrition. An entirely healthy — and indeed superiorly healthy — diet can be had from the "four vegan food groups" (fruits, vegetables, grains and legumes). Likewise there is no need to eat animal foods in order to have a varied, delicious and satisfying diet — there are plenty of sensational tasting vegan foods from cuisines all over the world, including Asian, Indian, Middle Eastern, and good old American traditions. So, give it some thought. It wasn't that easy to even go vegetarian when I made that choice back in the early 1970s, but today even the big supermarket chains carry a lot of vegan foods from tofu to Boca Burgers, and of course whole grains and legumes and fresh fruits and vegetables, and it is a lot easier than you might think to go vegan and just withdraw ALL of your energy from the completely needless cruelty of raising and slaughtering sentient beings for food.
Deadly storms reported
Mace reported that no patients or employees were injured during the storms or evacuation. “The surgery department at the hospital does have all the utilities working and we are using that area as an emergency assessment, treatment and transfer center," Mace said. Several people from the Mountain View area were also treated in the emergency room at Batesville Tuesday night. “We had one fatality from Izard County who died from injuries sustained during the storms," Mace added. “And a triage center was set up at the Boeing plant at Izard County where Dr. Adam Gray treated 12 patients." According to Myra Wood, chief executive officer at Vital Link Emergency Medical Services in Batesville, the agency's base in Mountain View was “completely destroyed." Temporary crew quarters will be established today.
After leap breaks body, a miracle renews spirit
On the evening of Sept. 28, at an apartment complex in King of Prussia, a tragedy and a miracle occurred 2.5 seconds apart. The tragedy took place when Jordan Burnham, 18, a senior just nominated to the homecoming court at Upper Merion High School, jumped out his ninth-floor window. The miracle happened 90 feet below, when he hit the ground at 50 m.p.h. - and survived. Jordan has no recollection of going out the window. Even though he was suffering from depression, neither he nor anyone close to him ever expected him to do something so impulsive, so lethal. "I had everything to live for," he says now. Today, 114 days later, Jordan's body remains badly broken. With the help of three therapists, he stood on his right leg last week for 60 seconds.

Happy Valentine's Day to everyone. Don't forget to get that special someone that gift they've been looking for. The monthly board meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 21 in the library at 7 p.m. The Richards and W.E. Hall meeting will be April 12 at Ryan's Steakhouse in Conroe at 11 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 27, was a special day for my sister, Marilyn Hill. Her son Ricky, fianc Lauren and grandbaby Jayden took her out to eat at Pappasitos. Well of course this didn't stop me from celebrating again. My nephew said if I came, he would treat me as well, so my daughter Brinelle and I met them and we had a blast. My mom Annie was treated to a delicious meal as well. I would like to tell my nephew thanks for a great outing! Please continue to pray for the sick and shut-ins.
Society must stop giving benefits to illegal immigrants
They would become a huge additional burden to our social services system.Who will pay for it? How will we then finance Social Security and health care for our citizens? How will we take care of our poor?Advocates for illegal immigrants say such people are essential to our economy because we are short of workers.I don’t believe it. I believe many job positions are not filled only because wages are too low; therefore, only people who are here illegally are willing to take those jobs. This is shameful exploitation!My fourth problem with compassion toward illegal immigrants is that if an economy stands on exploitation, it is a moral disaster. When one group — illegal immigrants — is exploited, another group — shameless employers — flourishes. The third group — average taxpayers — subsidizes it.

I have a friend at work who is all ga-ga about Obama.
I told him that McCain will win the election; he wasn't happy with this prediction.
He mentioned the waves of delegates supporting Obama vs the paltry Rep show-ups. I told him it didn't matter--only one vote counts, and the deomgraphic that is atwitter with Obama tend to stay home and let someone else do the voting.
He mentioned how Limbaugh and Coulter are dissing McCain. I told him this was a deliberate strategy to make McCain more attractive to the Bush-haters.
He told me that the US economy is tanking, and people want a change. I told him that aside from the subprime fiasco, the US is doing pretty well. Besides, Obama has no plan yet; Dems tend to be protectionist, so he may become anti-NAFTA, which is bad for us.
