Sales up in Naples area in January, attitudes are upbeat

In January, home sales rose although prices fell in the Naples area, a report released Thursday showed.

There were 264 home sales last month, compared to 261 a year ago. That included 142 condo sales, compared to 126 in January 2007, a more than 12 percent increase.

“The buyers who are coming down for season haven't seen prices like this in a while," said Joe Ballarino, president and CEO of Amerivest Realty in North Naples.

The Naples Area Board of Realtors report released Thursday reflects sales made in Collier County through the Sunshine MLS, excluding Marco Island. It includes an overall market summary and breaks sales down by price and geographic area carved out by zip code.

In January, homes priced at less than $300,000 saw the biggest jump in sales -- from 81 a year ago to 103.

I've caused a stir

They live within a system open to abuse and the perception is that they abuse it! Everyone from the Speaker to the Prime Minister (and everyone in between) is suspected of being in it for themselves!

He must realise that if he has nothing to hide, then let us see! We are not interested in the expenses of journalists but I would love to know how much money Kilfoyle has spent on things I don't want to pay for!

Larry’s Bar to close on New Year’s Eve

One of them long known more for their food than drink will really hit home to many diners and will adversely effect an entire small village with its closing. There is also the Graystone Lodge, where the owner voluntarily went smoke free before the ban and made a big deal of the fact, then put the place up for sale shortly there after. Now it's been shuttered for several months.

Giusto to skip critical meeting

They feed and care for the strays. Every animal in his care is taken out and walked twice daily. He now has prisoners who are experts in animal nutrition and behavior. They give great classes for anyone who'd like to adopt an animal. He has literally taken stray dogs off the street, given them to the care of prisoners, and had them place in dog shows.

The best part? His budget for the entire department is now under $3 million.

[The writer and wife] adopted a Wemeriner from a Maricopa County shelter two years ago. He was neutered, and current on all shots, in great health, and even had a microchip inserted the day we got him. Cost us $78.

The prisoners get the benefit of about $0.28 an hour for working, but most would work for free, just to be out of their cells for the day.

That beagle upstages Clemens for a little bit

It was in the cards for Uno. Many of you, if not most, know about Uno by now. He's the beagle the adorable, "feel-good" creature who spared us Wednesday from fully taking in the unsettling scene of less-adorable baseball superstar and alleged substance-user Roger Clemens making up new words during a Congressional hearing.

Uno is the most famous beagle since Snoopy. He may be bigger than Snoopy because he's real. He's the first beagle to ever win "Best in Show" in 131 tries at the Westminster Kennel Club's Dog show.

He continues an incredible year of the underdog in sport Appalachian State beating Michigan, Gardner-Webb knocking of Kentucky, the New York Giants upsetting the Patriots in the Super Bowl. Charley Brown finally getting the prize in the Super Bowl ad.

Yep, a real dog like one you would immediately take from the pound and put in the pickup becoming top dog at the most prestigious canine beauty contest in the world.

Clinton Follows Rove Playbook

Barrack Hussein Obama attended Muslim schools. His parents are Muslims. Why is showing him and his heritage a low blow. That is his background.

Why is it a problem that both Obama and Hate monger L. Farrkhan, from the nation of islam leader.. share the same pastor and advisor.

In fact Farrakhan came out in the news today for B Hussein..

I am surprised however that Obama is a smoker of cigarettes in this day and age, but Im sure that wont take time out of his day .. to take him from his job at the office.

I do like how Obama feels comfortable in the Kenyan attire above..He looks good like his dad.. Perhaps he may move himself and others to Kenya.. and thereby leave the rest of us here who actually pay taxes .. to run the country.

U.S. candidates get set for 2 crucial primaries

All of us are trying to find the one third we relate to best. We are disappointed by running into the two thirds that most confuse us if not annoy us. Everyone knows these candidates are either sociopaths, vampires or sychophants. People need to vote their conscience if they still have their claim ticket to get it out of the pawn shop. For sure two thirds of us will be disappointed with the results of the 2008 election.

A total triumph and an utter defeat

These final concessions came on top of earlier moves to get the Tories and Greens on board, including an extra £10 million for an additional 300 police officers and £4 million more to fight climate change. The Tories were derided by Labour and Liberal Democrat MSPs for helping the SNP.Tavish Scott, the Liberal Democrats' finance spokesman, described the settlement as a "Nat-Con" budget. He labelled Mr Salmond's threat to resign if the Budget had not been passed as "a landmark strop".Iain Gray, for Labour, said the Budget deal was nothing more than a "tartan Tory tango", and he also derided Mr Salmond's threats to quit."The unedifying pantomime of a First Minister threatening resignation from behind the safety of deals already done is an act of vacuous bravado which sums up his government's approach to this whole process," he saidBut Annabel Goldie, the Scottish Tory leader, was delighted with her party's achievements.
