ABINGDON, Va. – A 30-year-old Bristol Tennessee woman could face life behind bars after entering guilty plea to robbery and other charges on Friday in Washington County, Va., Circuit Court. Rebecca Lynn Butler pleaded guilty without an agreement to robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, use of a firearm in commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, grand larceny of a motor vehicle, credit card theft and two counts of uttering a forged check. "You will be brought back for sentencing," Judge C. Randall Lowe told her after accepting the plea. "At that time, it appears that you are facing life plus 78 years ... eight years of that is a mandatory sentence." She entered an "Alfred plea," meaning she is not admitting guilt but believes it to be in her best interest to enter a guilty plea.

While total enrollment increased by 8 percent, the number of English Learners increased by 21 percent, and the number of FEP students by a whopping 195 percent. I'd say something good is happening in those schools.Some believe the teaching of English as a second language is a waste of taxpayer money and that the children of illegal immigrants don't deserve a place in the classroom. I think they're wrong on constitutional, economic and humanitarian grounds.It would be unconstitutional for schools to deny access on the basis of someone's immigration status or English proficiency.

Studies investigating the association of cadmium and sex steroid hormones in men have been inconsistent, but previous studies were relatively small. Methods In a nationally representative sample of 1,262 men participating in the morning examination session of phase I (1998-1991) of the third National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, creatinine corrected urinary cadmium and serum concentrations of sex steroid hormones were measured following a standardized protocol. Results After adjustment for age and race-ethnicity, higher cadmium levels were associated with higher levels of total testosterone, total estradiol, sex hormone-binding globulin, estimated free testosterone, and estimated free estradiol (each p-trend <0.05). After additionally adjusting for smoking status and serum cotinine, none of the hormones maintained an association with urinary cadmium (each p-trend >0.05).
US plans to shoot down spy satellite
New Delhi: While thousands of space objects burn up in the earth's atmosphere each year, America isn't taking chances with the classified data and toxic fuel on board this time. The US Department of Defense will shoot down a satellite that experts predict will land on Earth in late February or early March. The department announced Thursday that it will "engage" the decaying satellite, which it earlier deemed to be low risk. The department said this week that the chances that the "uncontrollable US experimental satellite" will hit a populated area are small, but "the potential consequences would be of enough concern to consider mitigating actions." The NROL-21 USA-193 satellite was launched for the Defense Department in December 2006 and failed within hours.
